Documentation
Everything you need to record, edit and export with Zoomy.
Getting started
Zoomy is a desktop app for Windows, macOS and Linux. Download it from the home page, install it and open it. Nothing runs in the browser.
From the library you can record your screen, open a video you already have, or try the built-in demo project. Every project saves itself automatically and stays in your library.
Recording
Open the recorder, then pick a screen or a window, a microphone and system audio. Both audio sources show a live level meter and are mixed into one track. Choose 30 or 60 fps and a 3 or 5 second countdown.
- While recording you can pause, resume, restart, discard or stop from the small bar on screen. The bar is never part of the video.
- Anywhere on your computer: Ctrl + Alt + P pauses and Ctrl + Alt + S stops. If another app already uses a shortcut, Zoomy picks the next free one and shows it in the bar.
- The app records your cursor and clicks alongside the video. That is what makes auto-zoom and follow-cam work on your own recordings.
- On macOS, allow Screen Recording and Microphone for Zoomy in System Settings → Privacy & Security the first time.
Zooms and cursor
Zooms use a spring camera, so they feel smooth instead of mechanical. Pick one of four speeds and either fix the zoom on a point or let it follow the cursor. With Zoomy Pro, auto-zoom adds a zoom on every click for you.
Camera motion blur softens fast camera moves, like a real shutter, and you can set how strong it is or turn it off. The cursor can be restyled after the fact: macOS, macOS light, Windows, pointing hand, touch dot or spotlight. You can set its smoothing and size, add motion blur and click ripples, and hide it when it is idle.
Backgrounds and looks
Frame the recording with a mesh wallpaper, a gradient, a plain color, or (with Pro) your own image. Adjust blur, grain, padding, corner radius and shadow, or apply one of the six one-click looks. Pick the aspect ratio that matches where the video will be posted.
The 3D tilt (a Zoomy Pro feature) turns the recording in space (left, right, tipped back, or a hero angle) with a soft perspective. It eases back to flat while the camera zooms in, so zoomed views stay sharp. You can also drop images on top of the video as overlays.
Text
There are nine text styles (title, statement, serif, karaoke subtitles, step label, glass note, lower third, keystroke, highlight) and nine animations (mask reveal, rise, fade, focus, pop, slide, word by word, letter by letter, typewriter). Every color is editable.
Drag text directly on the preview. Guides snap it to the center, the thirds and the safe margins. Hold Alt to move it freely.
Automatic captions
Captions are part of Zoomy Pro. In the Text tab, choose a language and press Generate captions. Zoomy listens to your recording and adds subtitle lines on the timeline, in the karaoke Subtitles style, where each word lights up as it is spoken.
- It runs on your computer with Whisper, so your audio is never uploaded. The first time, a small speech model (about 40 to 80 MB) is downloaded once, which needs an internet connection.
- English is the fastest. Pick another language, or “Detect the language”, to use the larger multilingual model.
- The captions follow your cuts and speed changes. Generate again after editing and the old captions are replaced; your own texts are kept.
- Whisper can mishear names and technical words. Click a caption on the timeline to fix its text.
Webcam
Turn on Webcam in the recorder and pick a camera. It is recorded as its own video next to the screen, so you can restyle it afterwards.
- The Webcam tab picks a shape (circle, rounded or wide), a size, and one of nine spots. You can also drag the bubble on the preview and resize it by its corner.
- With “Shrink while zoomed in”, the bubble gets smaller during zooms so it stays out of the way.
- Mirror, a white border and a shadow are optional. If your face is slightly ahead of or behind the screen, nudge the offset slider.
- You can also add a video you filmed separately from the Webcam tab.
Effects
The Effects tab adds timed effects over the picture. Pick one and it starts at the playhead and lasts 3 seconds. Stretch it on the timeline, where effects have their own track.
- Blur and Pixelate hide private details such as an email address or a token. Apply them to a region or to the whole frame.
- Spotlight dims everything except one area, to draw the eye.
- Vignette darkens the edges. Black & white removes the color. Glitch adds a digital distortion.
Drag an effect's area on the preview and stretch it from its corner, or set it precisely with the sliders. Effects fade in and out, and sit under your texts and images. Only one effect can run at a time on the track.
Timeline and transitions
Split, trim and change the speed of each clip. Cuts can use one of 12 transitions (fade, dip, blur, zoom, cross zoom, slide, push, whip, flip, spin, iris), and you can set a default that applies to every new cut. Start and end transitions are available too. To reorder the clips, drag a clip by the grip in its top-left corner, or use Earlier and Later in the Clip tab. Zooms, texts and effects stay at their time on the timeline, so move them if you reorder. To join several recordings in one project, use Add recording in the Clip tab or the Recording button in the timeline toolbar: the new video is added after the last clip, and you can then split, trim, reorder and delete its clips like any other. The webcam bubble only shows on clips of the main recording. Undo and redo work everywhere.
Audio
Clean up a voice with noise reduction, level it with loudness normalization, and add background music that automatically ducks under your voice.
Exporting and sharing
Export to MP4, WebM or GIF, with presets for the common platforms. Every export stays in the project's export history, so you can download it again, share it through your system's share sheet, or get a link to a Zoomy page where anyone can watch the video and comment on it.
The free plan exports up to 1080p at 30 fps with a small “Made with Zoomy” badge. Pro exports up to 4K at 60 fps with no badge.
Zoomy Pro and your license
Zoomy Pro Lifetime is a one-time payment of 39.99 €, or Zoomy Pro Monthly is a subscription of 9.99 € a month that you can cancel anytime. After buying you get a license key by email. Create a Zoomy account (or sign in), then in the app open Upgrade → “I already have a licence key” and paste it: the key is linked to your account.
- Pro follows your account. Sign in on a computer and Pro runs there; it works on one computer at a time, and signing in on another moves it (a few times a week). “Remove licence from my account” in the same dialog frees the key.
- The key is checked every time the app starts. Offline, Pro keeps working for 30 days.
- A monthly key works while the subscription is active. Cancel from the link in your Lemon Squeezy receipt; Pro returns to Free when the period ends.
Troubleshooting
- Nothing to record on macOS. Give Zoomy the Screen Recording permission, then quit and reopen the app.
- macOS says the app can't be opened. The current builds are not signed yet. Right-click the app, choose Open, then confirm.
- Windows SmartScreen warns about the installer. Same reason. Choose “More info”, then “Run anyway”.
- No system audio. Check that the system audio source is selected in the recorder and that the level meter moves.
